Boulder Ridge Riding Camp

Boulder Ridge Riding camps work with horses and kids to enhance a variety of life skills. Full day activities with horses on the ground and in the saddle build skills to apply to any given situation in their young lives. Through the use of EAL, Equine Assisted Learning, we strive to help kids improve their leadership abilities, communication, and team building skills while gaining self confidence. This customized program is a ton of fun for everyone involved! Camps are suited to new clients who have never ridden as well as our clients who are already cantering ground poles, are preparing to jump, or have already started jumping.

Frequently Asked Questions (for all programs)

    Why horses?
Collaboration, communication, transparency, and authenticity are key life skills – these are also the keys to survival for horses and their herds. Through the use of equine assisted learning, participants improve their leadership abilities, communication, and team building skills while gaining self confidence and self awareness.  Like horses, people have to manage their emotions and communication styles to gain cooperation in school, at work, at home, and in the community.

How do I receive more information about this program?
Please request additional information through the "Join the Herd" page.  We encourage email and phone calls to answer any questions you may have.

    Who will be the facilitator?
    Alexandra Moran, MSW
30+ years horsewoman; 15+ years corporate leaders; child trauma experience; Purdue University Northwest Faculty
    Jennifer Houck
20+ years horsewoman; Purdue University Northwest Equestrian Team Hunt Seat Coach

    What is your cancellation policy?
Cancellations must happen at least two weeks prior to the event so we may accommodate the waiting list.

How do I pay for the program?
We can invoice through Paypal, accept a check, or purchases can be made through the Store page.

Will the rider need a helmet?
We recommend an ASTM/SEI certified helmet.

What clothes should the participant wear?
Boots with a heal and toe protection, long pants.

Does my participant have to ride a horse?
No - we never force a participant to ride a horse.

Will I have to send food for camps?
No - breakfast, lunch and snacks are provided for riding camp. Adult Day Camp and Mom and Me have lunch provided.

Can a parent communicate with their child during the program?
Yes - cell phones make this possible!

Is there much free time during the program?
Not much - participants may need to wait as other participants finish an exercise, but there is purpose in this time.

Can we enroll with a friend?
Absolutely - we think that's a great idea!

    Are you ADA accessible?
Yes. The parking is flat and easily accessible. Those in wheelchairs can maneuver through the facility.

    How do you handle liability?
Boulder Ridge maintains an equine professional general liability policy covering equine interaction for all participants.
The quality of the facilitation decreases the possibility of injury and all horse interactions take place in a controlled environment with equine specialists. Horses are selected for their ability to safely work with people.

What if participants are afraid of horses?
Participants who are fearful of horses are not required to personally interact with horses. We find that through the curriculum and sessions, most participants who arrive fearful of horses will have that fear significantly decreased by the time they depart.

What about those with allergies and asthma?
Those who are on medication for allergies and asthma are encouraged to continue taking medication prior to and post sessions. Many allergy, asthma sufferers work in the equine-farm industries and remain constantly prepared to treat a reaction when necessary.
